Plastic Free Kids Day

Protecting little ones from microplastics – one simple swap at a time.

Every year on July 8th, we host Plastic Free Kids Day — a dedicated moment in our calendar to shine a light on the rising threat of microplastics and how they’re affecting our children’s health.

It’s a day filled with meaningful content across our digital platforms — from expert-led Instagram Lives and impactful brand partnerships to exclusive offers and educational emails designed to help families take practical steps toward a plastic-free lifestyle.

Together, we explore what’s really in the products our children use every day — and offer simple, beautiful, natural alternatives that make a difference.

Why We Created Plastic Free Kids Day

Microplastics are tiny, invisible particles of plastic that are increasingly being found in the human body, including in our blood, lungs, placenta, and even testicles.
One alarming study from 2024 found that high levels of microplastics in the blood are linked to a 4.5x higher risk of stroke, heart attack or premature death.

For children, especially babies and toddlers, the risks are even greater. They are more exposed through everyday products like plastic toys, polyester teddies, fleece blankets, and synthetic sleepwear. Studies have shown that infants ingest 10–20 times more microplastics than adults, with particularly high levels found in baby faeces.

Many of these toxins come not just from the plastics themselves, but also from the chemicals added during production, which can be released into the body as the plastics break down. The result? A growing list of concerns including hormone disruption, reproductive issues, cell damage, and more.

Why Polyester is a Problem

Did you know that over 95% of soft toys in the UK are made entirely from polyester — a form of PET plastic, the same material found in water bottles?

Polyester sheds tiny plastic fibres into our homes, our children’s mouths, and eventually their bodies. Even ‘eco-friendly’ recycled polyester often comes with higher levels of toxic chemicals, thanks to the recycling process itself.

That’s why at Pure Earth Collection, we never use polyester or synthetic materials — not even in our packaging.
